CDOC Release Paths
CDOC is Colorado's state-prison and parole system. It is not a Montrose County jail. A Montrose County felony sentence may begin locally, but once the person is received by CDOC, the public release trail changes. The county jail list no longer controls the prison release answer. The correct sources are the CDOC Offender Search, the parole board calendar, CDOC records requests, VINE or victim-notification channels where connected, and the local parole office if the person is supervised in the Montrose area.
A person released from CDOC may be on parole, discharged from sentence, transferred to community corrections, placed under adult parole supervision, or finally discharged. Those words are not interchangeable. Parole is supervised release after prison. Discharge means the sentence or supervision term has ended. A parole eligibility date or board hearing is not the same as actual release.
Use CDOC Offender Search
The public CDOC search supports DOCNO, last name, first name, and gender. Search tips say the DOC number is numeric and up to six characters. Name searches return names beginning with entered letters, and hyphenated last names should be entered without the hyphen. The offender name may reflect the arrest or prosecution name rather than a later name change.
- Search by DOCNO when available.
- If DOCNO is unknown, search last name, first-name prefix, and gender if known.
- Open the matching result and compare name, date of birth, sentence, county, or court clues.
- Read status, location, parole office, parole eligibility date, mandatory release date, sentence discharge date, and any release or parole date shown.
- Use the CDOC disclaimer and records request when the public result conflicts with another source.

CDOC records are the fallback when the public offender search does not answer a prison release, parole release, discharge, or time-computation question. CDOC also publishes CORA and CCJRA request information for correctional records. The local Montrose parole office is useful when the person is assigned to adult parole in the region.

Parole Calendar Checks
The CDOC offender search also links to a parole-board calendar. The calendar shows month views and warns that hearings are subject to change. It also says modifications made by DOC will be available the following business day. A hearing date helps answer when release may be considered. It does not prove that release was granted.
The Colorado State Board of Parole is separate from CDOC and has sole authority over discretionary parole decisions for people in CDOC custody. After release, the Division of Adult Parole handles community supervision. For Montrose County, the Montrose Parole Office is the local anchor for parolees assigned to the area.

CDOC has a State ID Program under transition planning. That program is relevant for people leaving state prison, not for ordinary county jail bond releases. It is a narrow state-prison release detail that supports the difference between county release records and CDOC transition records.

- Parole Eligibility Date
- The first date a person may be considered for discretionary parole, not proof of release.
- Mandatory Release Date
- A computed release-to-parole date when the prison portion is complete, subject to credits and law.
- Sentence Discharge Date
- The point when the sentence or supervision term is finally discharged.
Those date concepts matter for Montrose County cases that moved from local custody into state prison. A person may have left the county jail months or years before a CDOC parole or discharge event. The county release record can show the transfer out of Montrose County Jail. The CDOC record can show prison location, parole status, computed dates, and later discharge. Neither record should be used as a substitute for the other.

That office is not the county probation office and should not be used for a person sentenced only to Judicial Branch probation. It is the local anchor when CDOC assigns adult parole after state-prison release.
For a Montrose County sentence, compare the CDOC offender-search status with the parole office shown on the record, any parole-board calendar event, and the court disposition that led to CDOC. If the public offender record is unclear, use the CDOC records request route. If the question is the original jail transfer from Montrose County, request the MCSO jail record as well.
